Edward S. Szewczyk

Attorney & Partner

Ed Szewczyk is proud of his family name (pronounced 'Sef-check'), and he should be. His grandparents came from a small village of Poland to East St. Louis, Illinois. Strangely, enough, the Szewczyk and Twardowsk families hadn't known each other in their homeland. But, it was here in this new country that they met and married. They had only grade school educations but were hardworking and industrious. Soon, they owned a grocery store in East St. Louis. More than anything, they valued education and saw to it that their children went as far academically as possible. Ed's father, who at the tender age of 11 had delivered groceries in his father's truck, became an ophthalmologist.

Ed was the oldest of six children who, like their father, became professionals-attorneys, physicians and educators.

A graduate of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois Law School, Ed worked for one year as a law clerk fo the 5th District Appellate Court Judge John Karnes. He then joined a defense firm in Belleville where he worked until 2000 when he joined the Callis Law Firm.

With over 20 years experience on the defense side, Ed brings an insider's knowledge of how insurance companies think. He is able to use this information to anticipate how the company will react and what the best course of action is for his client.

Being the father of three very active and involved children, Ed spends his spare time running between baseball games, which he also coaches, basketball games, swim meets and Muny Opera performances. His daughter, Maggie, a student at Cor Jesu, is the swimmer. Eddie, Jr., at St.

Louis University High School, plays basketball and has a budding acting career performing at the Muny Opera and in television and radio commercials. Scottie is a student at Blessed Sacrament and plays basketball and baseball.

Ed shares the car-pooling chores and the joys of being a parent with his lovely wife Patti. In his "spare time" he plays golf and tennis.
