Justice Rarick was born in Troy, Illinois, in 1940. He received his B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University and his law degree from Saint Louis University. He engaged in private law practice in Collinsville, Illinois from 1966 until 1975, during which time he served Collinsville City Attorney, Township Attorney for Collinsville and Jarvis Townships and Assistant States Attorney for Madison County. He assumed judicial office in 1975 and served as Chief Judge of the Third Judicial Circuit from 1985 to 1987. He also served as Presiding Judge of the Madison County Criminal Court from 1982 to 1985 and again from 1987 to 1988. He was elected to the Appellate Court, Fifth District in 1988 where he served until 2002. In September 2002 Justice Rarick was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court and served until his retirement in 2004. He is a member of the Illinois State, Madison County and Appellate Lawyers Association. Justice Rarick is presently counsel with the law firm of Callis Papa & Szewczyk, P.C.
